Following months of consultation, CQC are now beginning to implement the new way in which they will be inspecting GP practices.  But what does this mean for you?

The main changes are:

  1. There will be new ‘Quality Statements’ which will focus on specific topic areas under key questions and will be called ‘We/I’ statements. ‘I’ and ‘We’ statements will be used as reference points that reflect the views of the patients that use their services
  2. There will be six categories covering the evidence that CQC will collect during the quality assessment process:
  • People’s experiences
  • Feedback from staff and leaders
  • Observations of care
  • Feedback from partners
  • Processes
  • Outcomes of care

CQC Inspectors’ time on site will be spent gathering evidence for each practice, including observing care, equipment and premises as well as speaking to service users, advocates, and practice staff, with other evidence to be gathered off-site.

Whilst new providers will be inspected against this from 1 August 2022, all GP practices will be inspected on this from January 2023.
