CQC Single Assessment Framework: Understanding Your Partners |
Wednesday 10 June 12:00 – 13:00
This Masterclass is designed to help GP practices prepare for CQC inspection by focusing on how staff, teams, and external partners work together to deliver safe, joined-up care. We’ll unpack the CQC Quality Statements on Staff and Teams and Partnerships and Communities, showing exactly what inspectors look for in practice.
What you’ll learn:
- How teams share information and collaborate to plan, deliver, and coordinate care, including managing transitions, referrals, and discharges
- How practices build strong partnerships with other organisations and local communities, share learning, and drive service improvements
- Practical steps to demonstrate to the CQC that your practice delivers seamless care through effective teamwork and collaboration
Who should attend:
Practice leaders, managers, and staff involved in care coordination, team management, or partnership working who want to understand CQC expectations and show effective teamwork in action.
If you’re a DKJ Pathfinder subscriber, you can evidence quality statements in real time through our platform.
How Long Does the CQC Registration Process Take?
One of the most common questions providers ask when setting up a new service is: How long does the CQC registration process take? While there is no fixed timeframe, most applications take between 6 and 20 weeks from preparation to final decision, depending on the type of service and how prepared the application is from the outset.
The process is made up of several stages, and understanding each step can help providers plan more effectively and reduce the risk of delays.
The Typical Stages of CQC Registration
The first stage is usually the most time-consuming: preparing your documentation. Before submitting an application, providers need to gather a range of evidence and supporting documents to demonstrate how the service will operate safely and effectively. This often includes:
- A Statement of Purpose
- Policies and procedures
- Governance and compliance documents
- Insurance and financial information
- Registered Manager details and evidence
For some providers this may take only a few weeks, while for new or more complex services it can take several months to prepare everything properly.
Once ready, the application is submitted through the CQC online portal. Accuracy at this stage is extremely important, as missing information or inconsistencies can lead to delays later in the process.
Following submission, the CQC begins its review and initial checks. This includes assessing whether the documentation meets regulatory expectations and whether the service appears ready to deliver safe care. If further clarification is needed, the CQC will contact the provider with follow-up questions.
In many cases, the CQC will also arrange a Registered Manager interview or request additional clarification around leadership, governance, or operational arrangements before making a final decision.
What Causes Delays?
Delays in the CQC registration process are common, but many are avoidable. The most frequent causes include:
- Incomplete or incorrect documentation
- Generic policies that are not tailored to the service
- Poorly written Statements of Purpose
- Delays responding to CQC queries
- Issues with Registered Manager applications
In most cases, delays happen because the CQC requires further clarity or assurance that the provider can meet regulatory standards safely and effectively.
The type of service being registered can also affect timelines. Smaller or single-location services may move through the process more quickly, whereas larger or more complex services often require more detailed documentation and governance arrangements.
How Can Providers Speed Up the Process?
Preparation is key. Providers can help keep their application moving efficiently by:
- Starting documentation early
- Using clear, well-structured policies and templates
- Tailoring documents specifically to their service
- Double-checking applications before submission
- Responding quickly to CQC requests and queries
Well-organised applications are generally processed more smoothly and with fewer interruptions.
Getting Support With Your Registration
The registration process can feel overwhelming, particularly for first-time providers or services operating alongside day-to-day business pressures. Many providers choose to seek external support to help avoid delays and ensure their documentation is compliant from the outset.
At DKJ Support Services, we support providers through every stage of the CQC registration process, including document preparation, policy development, Registered Manager support, mock inspections, and compliance guidance. Our aim is to help providers feel confident, reduce avoidable delays, and build strong foundations for long-term compliance.
If you would like support with your CQC registration or compliance journey, please get in touch with our team for more information.
